TL;DR

User Interviews is a recruitment marketplace with a panel of 7.5M+ participants, plus Research Hub for managing your own panel. It's good at finding people. It doesn't run the sessions, store the recordings or analyze what you learn, so most teams pay for other tools on top. UserTesting acquired User Interviews in January 2026, and User Interviews' announcement says customers can still buy and use it directly.

The right alternative depends on where your participants come from. For your own customers plus an external panel in the same place as your studies, look at Great Question or Rally. For a different paid panel, look at Respondent (B2B and B2C), Prolific (surveys and academic research), Askable (US, UK, Australia and New Zealand) or TestingTime (Europe). For recruiting from your own website traffic, look at Ethnio.

Why teams look for a User Interviews alternative

Recruitment is only one step of the study

User Interviews finds and schedules participants. The interview, the recording, the notes and the analysis happen somewhere else, which usually means a video tool, a repository and a spreadsheet to tie them together. For teams running a few studies a month, the handoffs between tools cost more time than the recruiting.

Session fees add up

Pay As You Go is $49 per session for consumer participants and $98 for B2B, before incentives, which are billed separately. Annual plans bring the per-session price down, but you are committing to a volume up front. Teams that mostly talk to their own customers end up paying marketplace rates for people they could reach directly.

Your own panel lives in a separate product

Managing your own customers in User Interviews means Research Hub, which is sold separately from Recruit with no public price. If most of your research is with your own users, that is the product you are really buying, and it is worth comparing directly with other panel and CRM tools.

Ownership changed

With User Interviews now part of UserTesting, some teams are reviewing contracts and data terms at renewal. Nothing has to change, but it is a natural point to check whether the setup still fits.

The 8 best User Interviews alternatives

1. Great Question

Great Question is a research platform with a research CRM at its center. You keep your own customers in a participant panel, recruit from it with screeners and segments, and run interviews, surveys and unmoderated tests in the same place, with incentives, consent and recordings handled along the way. Sessions land in an AI repository, so findings stay attached to the people and studies they came from.

When you need people outside your customer base, Great Question recruits through Respondent (4.3M+) on every plan. To be plain about the overlap with User Interviews: Enterprise accounts can also recruit from the User Interviews panel (7.5M+) inside Great Question. So you can move your panel and workflow without giving up that panel.

Pricing: Self-serve is $129 per seat per month (up to 5 seats), or $1,290 per seat per year, with a 14-day free trial and no free plan. Recruiting your own customers costs nothing extra. External recruits through Respondent on Self-serve cost $13 to $88 per completed participant depending on study type, with incentives on top. Enterprise is custom.

Best for: Research and Research Ops teams that recruit their own customers regularly and want recruitment, sessions and analysis in one place, with an external panel available when they need it.

Honest limit: If you only ever need a one-off batch of paid participants and already have every other tool, a marketplace on its own is simpler.

2. Respondent

Respondent is the closest like-for-like swap: a recruitment marketplace with 4.3M+ participants across 150+ countries, strong on professional and B2B audiences. Its session price also covers screeners, recordings and an AI moderator.

Like User Interviews, it is built around external participants. It doesn't manage your own customer panel, and API access is set up with its team.

Pricing: Pay as you go is $40 per session for B2C and $80 for B2B. Annual commitments start at $7,500.

Best for: Teams that mainly need hard-to-reach professional participants and want a lower list price per session.

3. Prolific

Prolific is an online participant panel built for surveys and online tasks, with roots in academic research. It reports 300,000+ active participants in 40+ countries, strongest in the US, the UK and Europe, and sets a minimum hourly rate for participant pay.

It is a better fit for quantitative and unmoderated work than for recruiting specific professionals for interviews.

Pricing: No subscription. You pay participants directly plus a platform fee of 42.8% for corporate customers, or 33.3% for academic and non-profit teams. Minimum participant pay is $8.00 per hour.

Best for: Surveys, experiments and unmoderated tasks with general consumer audiences, especially academic teams.

4. Rally

Rally is a research ops CRM: it helps a team manage its own participant panel, consent and outreach consistently across a department. For external participants it books sessions through the Respondent and User Interviews panels rather than its own. See our Great Question vs Rally comparison for how the two differ.

Rally focuses on recruitment operations, so the sessions and analysis still happen in other tools.

Pricing: The Team plan is contact sales. External recruiting is charged per session, from $26 (unmoderated B2C) to $65 (moderated B2B). Enterprise needs a 5-seat minimum.

Best for: Research ops teams standardizing how a department recruits its own users.

5. Ethnio

Ethnio recruits from your own website and app traffic with intercept screeners, then handles scheduling, incentives and consent. It has no panel of its own. If you are weighing Ethnio itself, we compare it with other tools in our Ethnio alternatives guide.

Pricing: Pro is $82 per seat per month billed annually, for 1 to 6 seats, with a free trial. Enterprise (7+ seats) is custom.

Best for: Teams with plenty of site traffic who want to recruit users at the moment they are using the product.

6. Askable

Askable combines participant recruitment with research tools. It reports millions of verified participants across 50+ countries, with active local recruitment concentrated in the US, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

Pricing: No public prices. Pro and Enterprise are by demo, and Askable says its plans include unlimited participants with no recruitment fee, with incentives included in plan pricing.

Best for: Teams recruiting in Australia and New Zealand, or across those markets and the US and UK.

7. dscout

dscout is a multi-method platform best known for diary and in-context studies, with interviews, usability tests and AI-moderated studies alongside. It recruits from its own panel and partner panels of more than 3 million additional participants. See Great Question vs dscout for a closer look.

Pricing: Custom. Core, Select and Enterprise plans are quoted on request.

Best for: Diary studies and mobile, in-the-moment research with consumer participants.

8. TestingTime

TestingTime is a managed recruitment service with a panel of more than 985,000 people. Its core markets are Switzerland, Germany, the UK and France, and it recruits elsewhere on request. It recruits for tests, interviews, surveys, focus groups and diary studies.

Pricing: Priced per order through a calculator on its site, with incentives included. Annual subscriptions and a Private Pool for your own users are quoted.

Best for: Teams recruiting consumer participants in German-speaking Europe, the UK or France.

How to choose

Start with where your participants come from

If most of your research is with your own customers, a marketplace is the wrong center of gravity: you want a research CRM (Great Question, Rally) or intercepts (Ethnio), with a marketplace for the gaps. If most of it is with people who don't know you yet, compare the marketplaces on audience: Respondent for professionals, Prolific for online consumer samples, Askable and TestingTime for their regions.

Then count the tools around it

Add up what you pay for recruitment, scheduling, video, incentives, the repository and the time spent moving data between them. A cheaper session price can cost more once the rest of the stack is included. Our guide to the best user research tools covers the wider stack.

Check the data terms

Before you move, export your participant list, consent records and session history, and confirm how long a vendor keeps your data after a contract ends. That matters more than usual for anyone renewing after a change of ownership. Our guide to migrating from User Interviews covers what the Research Hub export includes and what it leaves out.

Recruit your own customers and an external panel in one place

Great Question keeps your panel, your studies and your findings together, and adds Respondent or User Interviews when you need people outside your customer base. See the side-by-side Great Question vs User Interviews comparison, or bring your current panel to a demo.
